The New Zealand Christmas tree

001Greeting loyal readers and fellow maremmas. Well, the day grows closer.  Between the end of the world, mummy’s birthday and Christmas day it is getting very busy around here.  Mummy went off to Palmerston North yesterday to collect sister and while she was there she spied a row of Pohutukawa trees, lining the main road.   You can read about them here: http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/photo/pohutukawa-flowers

Mummy wanted to grow a pohutukawa tree, but they are frost tender and it is too cold here in the sunny Mangamahu valley for them to survive.   They are also considered to be invasive trees in places like South Africa and California, where their root systems get into the sewerage pipes and underneath foot paths. So, may be it is not a good idea to grow a pohutukawa tree in the garden.  Its roots might get into the spectic tank.  Off Me and Nellie go.  It is time for mummy to get off the computer to give Me and Nellie our morning dinner.  See you tomorrow, if the world has not ended by then.  Love Nellie and Jasper, the two bestest maremmas in all the land.

If it wants to drink from a septic tank it must be a dog. Some of us quench our thirst at the toilet bowl and I wouldn’t know because I can’t reach it.

Love Pohutukawa trees. They look fabulous next to the white sand and blue sea. We planted one in our last garden – didn’t know the roots could be invasive 😦 maybe we won’t plant one here 😀

  6. Beautiful tree, good luck to you and making it through the end of the world. Have a great night.
