Greeting loyal readers and fellow maremmas.  As you all know it is the middle of summer here in sunny New Zealand and this summer has been particularly hot and dry.  While We have access to a bore, mummy refuses to use the water to water the lawn and the paddocks.    She says she has enough to do watering the garden.  While she would love an irrigation system, she says that it is more water saving to use a hose.  She says it is important to conserve water even if We have access to an unlimited water supply.  Today when mummy came home from work there was no water to the house, but thankfully the pump had switch itself off for some reason and it was easily reset.  Such are the joys of living in the countryside.  Love Nellie and Jasper.

The fire rish is now extreme.

Oh boy, lets hope everyone is very very careful with cigarettes and what not. I saw a doggie with his own kiddie swim pool last summer…that looked like a lot of fun and would be very refreshing. Nellie does look darn cute there

Gosh….. Looks like Australia 😉 We are walking on hay at the moment too, though we did have some rain yesterday – a sprinkle. The temperatures are due to go up again by Wednesday so it will be inside with the aircon again.

  3. Oh I do hope you do not get any fires. Please stay safe.

  4. That is the brownest, driest grass I ever saw. Your mom is smart. It’s important to water the garden, and let the grass go. I don’t really like the rain, but for you, I hope it rains soon.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  5. Wish I could send you some rain – we currently have enough here ;o)

  6. It does look very dry. Our Lady is the same about watering. She will water a few plants but the grass gets to die. We hope you get rain soon. Lee and Phod

It appears that you are getting the weather that we had LAST summer! It was SUPER hot and dry, hoping that this summer isn’t the same.
Praying that no fires start there!
You may have some water issues living in the country but you certainly have some exquisite scenery!

It is so amazing watching your blog! I am sitting here under 9″ of snow that fell yesterday while you are enjoying your summer! What a difference! Nikita and Bella are romping around in the snow piles, while your doggies are looking for some relief from the heat. Amazing! Stay cool!

We’re on a well also. Ours went out once and we had to replace the pump (which is 400 feet down). The bad news is that it went out late in the afternoon. It was a Friday. The date was December 24th. If it happens, and you can do it, this will see you through the emergency. If you have a neighbo(u)r reasonably close, you run a garden hose from an outside faucet of that house to the outside faucet of yours and you have water. If the other house goes out, you have the water covered for it by the same method. You need enough hose and you can string hoses together but you’ll need an adaptor (inexpensive) with 2 female ends. Get the adaptor and hoses before you really need them.

  14. I’ve been out doing a rain dance for you! I just hope it knows to go waaaaaaaaay south to New Zealand!!

    • Thank you for the rain dance. It sure worked because when We got up this morning it was raining. Mummy says it wil have to rain for a few more days for the rain to have any benefit. Love Nellie and Jasper.

We have drought cycles like that here in Florida too Jasper…it gets so dry there’s fires all the time and we have water rationing too…and watering lawns, washing cars, any outside water use is ery strictly limited to once a week and only early morning or evening, and for short period of time…
