Me having a snooze on the cool kitchen floor

Me having a snooze on the cool kitchen floor

Greeting loyal readers and fellow maremmas.  When mummy and daddy moved to the sunny Mangamahu valley three years ago from Wellington they envisaged a quiet and peaceful life.  Well, that illusion was shattered when they got Me and then Nellie.  They thought that when living in the country there would be no noise.  Boy, were they wrong.  What between the:

  • Stock trucks roaring past at 5 am to collect sheep from the big farms further up the valley,
  • Me and Nellie and the neighbourhood dogs having a lovely woofathon in the middle of the night,
  • Peacocks squawking at all hours of the day and night,
  • Helicopters spraying the orchards at the crack of dawn during the summer and
  • Giant fans in the orchards in the winter stopping the fruit crops from getting too cold, starting just before dawn,
  • The bird scarers going off in the orchards every 20 minutes.  They sound like gun shot,
  • The neighbours irrigation system going 24/7,
  • Chain saws being used to chop up fallen logs down at the river.  The the huge logging trucks come and collect the logs,
  • And Me and Nellie barking at every passing car, truck and cyclists

It is a wonder anyone gets any rest at all. This morning it was the helicopters that woke up mummy and daddy at 5 am.  Mummy says it doesn’t worry her too much as it was a good opportunity to do some early morning watering of the house garden.  Today, mummy and daddy are going to sister’s school to watch her swimming sports.  Aunty is still away skiing in Georgia, Russia.  Love Nellie and Jasper the two bestest maremmas in all the land.

  1. My, you do live in a busy neighbourhood. Mine gets that way a bit in the summer when the builders come to build the houses in the new development just west of us. I keep everyone in their places, though! WOOF! BOL!

  6. OMGoodness, Jasper, that IS a noisy neighborhood. I think the best noise of all must be the woofathon. I wish I could join in.

You don’t have Their snoring to keep you awake at night.

My sister Katie is not as loud now that she is older but I am a hound and I love to howl, so when I start howling Katie starts barking and it is quite noisy in our house too 😉

    • Me and Nellie love to howl at the moon. Mummy says I am very good at it, but for some reason they do not appreciate it. Daddy often gets up in the night and yells at Me and Nellie. He says something about shutting up. Can’t understand what he is talking about.
