Winter gardening

The first of the season's asparagus is just coming up.

The first of the season’s asparagus is just coming up.

Greeting loyal readers.  As you all know mummy likes to garden, with our assistance of course.  It is the middle of winter here in New Zealand, but it has been unseasonably warm. Yesterday the temperature was 15 C (59 F). Auntie is working up the mountain (Mt Ruapehu) and she says there is almost no snow  there.  With all this warm weather some of mummy’s plants are growing sooner than seasonally expected.  She is even thinking about getting her potato beds ready now, instead of later on in the year. Me and Nellie are still going on walkabouts to see Arlo down at Farmer Rae’s kiwifruit orchard.  For some reason mummy is not very happy with this.  She yells at Me and Nellie and says that We are bad doggie woggies.  How can that be?  Me and Nellie are the paragons of virtue and can do no wrong.  Maybe mummy is confusing Us with S.O.D. (someotherdoggy), who hasn’t been visiting us lately.  Love Nellie and Jasper, the two bestest maremmas in the land.
