Off to Hunterville

Statue of Hunterway dog

Statue of Hunterway dog

Greeting loyal readers and fellow maremmas.  Yesterday, mummy took sister and boyfriend (yes, he is still around) over to Vinager Hill, near Hunterville to go camping with friends.  She thought about taking Me and Nellie along for the ride, but decided against it because the road is narrow and windy and given our chronic car sickness, it would not have been a pleasant journey. On the way home mummy got a bit lost and took the wrong turn.  She was very annoyed with herself.

Hunterville is well known for its statue of the Hunterway dog.  Hunterways are a breed of dog used by New Zealand farmers to herd sheep.  Mummy says while Me and Nellie might be sheep dogs We are not very good at looking after sheep.  We keep on being naughty and try to chase them around the paddock.  Me and Nellie like to think that We are giving the sheep much needed exercise.  After all We wouldn’t like to see fat sheep, now would we.

chasing sheep sounds like fun to me. I would love to join in I run real fast. I am part greyhound whoot that would be fun

  3. That is right you keep the sheep fit and well. A bit of chasing is good in our book.
    Have a tremendous Thursday.
    Best wishes Molly

  4. I have never heard of the Hunterway Breed before. Thanks for introducing me to that! I am a herding dog too and I agree, we wouldn’t want fat sheep now would we?

  5. I think the sheep are happy to have you and Nellie to play with. They must get tired of being “herded” all the time. Playing chase is much more fun.

    Love and licks,

  6. I think you are very kind to the sheep keeping them fit. I must try that reason on Mama when she tells me off for chasing sheep!

  7. We never heard of that breed of dogs. We think you are marvellous herders keeping the sheep in tip top shape! Lee and Phod

What a fun field trip! Cool statue

  9. Sage says:

I had to look up a picture of a Huntaway. They have the same coloring as a Kelpie (Sage is part Kelpie), but appear to be a bit bigger.

That is a breed we have never heard of, but we are glad it does a good job. The place where your sister and her boyfriend are going to camp looks like a very lonely spot.

Well it sounds like you were better off staying home, so sorry to hear you get the ickies in the car.

Thanks for joining our blog hop!! We love meeting new peeps.
