Those Chickens

A nesting box full of nice, clean hay.

Greeting loyal readers and fellow maremma.  Now, as you all know We have been joined at Chez Jasper by six pesky chickens.   They arrived before Christmas and according to Daddy they should have start laying eggs sometime in the middle of January.  As there were are six chickens, mummy and daddy were expecting to see six eggs a day in the chicken’s nesting boxes.  Up up to now, all the family have been seeing are one or two eggs a day.  The most they have got in one day was four.  However, this afternoon mummy was in the garden getting some green beans for dinner and watering her garden.  For some reason she went past the asparagus bed which has been left fellow.  Imagine here surprise when she happened to glance down and saw, initially three brown eggs.  Upon further investigation she found that there were more.  Guess how many more?  P1050317P1050318P105031632 eggs.

Those stupid chickens.  Why aren’t they using their nesting boxes?

Of course, if Me and Nellie had been allowed into the house garden, We would have found them straight away, but oh no We are not allowed there.  Something about chasing upsetting the chickens.

P1050321As you can see some of the eggs are rather large.  Mummy says that she will be making lots of ice-cream and pavalva this weekend.  Maybe, Me and Nellie will be allowed some tasty eggs as well.

Love Nellie and Jasper, the two hottest maremmas in all the land.

That is an egg bonanza!! I hope you get eggs this weekend too…and I also hope the chickens use their nesting boxes so Mummy doesn’t have to do hide and seek for eggs all the time.
