Old School at Ngaturi

The School

The School

Greeting loyal readers and fellow maremmas.  One day on one of our walks, mummy decided to take some photos of the old school at Ngaturi.  It is just down the road from Chez Jasper and We often go past it.  The school was opened in 1916 at a cost of £240 ($30,589 in today’s money), with a roll of 13 children.  The school building consisted of one classroom of 450 square feet.  Due to falling rolls the school closed in 1967 with a roll of less than nine students.

  1. Our mom loves old places that are made of wood (like her brain) so she will love these pictures!

  2. Schools were better with such lovely windows. I like the building(s). Not much needed for learning except a mind ready to learn and one willing to teach.

  3. I love old building. They have such interesting smells. Lexi

Are you certain that a government wasn’t involved in this mismanagement?

  6. Funnily enough, the building and land is now owned by the defunct Rabbit Board http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/rabbits/page-7

  7. We especially like the photos of the broken windows…lots of atmo…..

The school was flooded and destroyed in the big 2004 floods here. Never been used since. The water was over half way up the walls.

  8. Oh wow. Our hooman likes visiting old places too sometimes. Whee prefer to stay home and see the pigtures!

Great building. SHE is a retired teacher and loves the little old schools. We still have a few small schools left here in the middle of New South Wales.

Thanks for stopping by our blogging. We had heard of Maremmas in NZ through blogging comments, so we’re happy to meet you! (Sounds like you have some crazy chickens in NZ, too….BOL!)

What a nice bit of history, be amazing if it could be restored!
