Greetings loyal readers. As you all know sister has a boy-friend. He has been hanging around for a few months now and seems to be keen on sister. Me and Nellie have stopped barking at him every time he comes into the house. Only because We can’t be bothered. He seems to be here all the time. Anyway, it was sister’s birthday on Sunday and he brought her a present. Guess what it was? A pair of gum-boots!! Mummy says ” what a romantic present”. But they are just the thing to wear to watch rugby and sister did need a new pair. Mummy says they are a posh pair of gum-boots and she would like a pair herself. Here in rural New Zealand there are often signs on shops and garages asking people to take off their gum boots before entering. There is even a song about gum boots. Love Nellie and Jasper, the two bestest maremmas in all the land.
I have to ask, what does one do with gum boots? Go fishing?
They are worn on farms to keep feet warm and dry. You can read about them on the following link

Gotta like a new, fancy pair of shoes 😉
I like those boots! If Mom had them, she would take me for a walk in the rain. Once I stole gum out of Mom’s pocketbook. It was yummy. It was different from the boots, though.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Mum says she needs some new gumboots, especially with winter coming… What we want to know is, why does one boot appear to be taller than the other? 🙂
Big WOOFS from Solo and Krissy 🙂
Kaci and I love chewing shoes. boots, or whatever it doesn’t matter. We haven’t sampled gumboots yet. How many pairs of gumboots did Imelda Marcos have? I thought so.
OMD! That song was too funny. Our mom and dad both have gum boots. Mom thinks they are a very nice practical gift.
*BOL* … mom says dad must not even dream of every buying her gum boots unless they are the swanky Hunter kind from the UK.
You have a gum boot song & we have gum boot dancing here in SA – it comes from the underground mine workers.
Wally & Sammy
Actually, we can beat that here in New Zealand. We have a town that has an annual gumboot throwing competition!
Ah yes. The ubiquitous gumboot. I grew up in Patea so all our gumboots were freezing worker white. And ‘borrowed’. “If it weren’t for your gumboots, where would you be?” Best song ever!!!!! Only in New Zealand LOL!
We have had so much rain lately, we could use a pair of those too!
Those are the coolest boots I’ve seen – I love them…. wonder if they make them in a small pig size?
Oh by the way, you’ve been tagged! Come see my blog later 🙂
I think boots are boots – my mom would be happy about such a present :o) I like this boots, it’s not really romantic – but I like this Wellies!
After that present I wonder if she will keep him? You better start barking at him again

Hmmm,,,,,, from a Las Vegas Nevada point of view,,,, where,,, ladies shoes reign supreme (might even be called a religion),,,, the young dude seems pretty harmless. Even so, please bark at anyone who puts “practical” shoes on a young ladies feet.
Are gum boots like wellies? If so, you can’t beat them! Mummy loves hers:-)
My Mom wears sloggers. Probably a Pacific NW version of gum boots. A very practical boyfriend for sister. Sounds like a keeper.
Cool boots!
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
It is really nice that he bought her a birthday present and since they are to watch rugby matches that makes them a good gift 🙂
O guys I forgot you lived in New Zeland, boy do I have the biggest surprise for you!!!
Our mum would be lost without her gumboots (or wellies as she calls them, being originally from the U.K.) . She has many pairs for different jobs, e.g. working around the cows, composting after the rain, etc. We thought the gumboot song was Aussie actually?
My peep has a pair o’ them, she wears them when she cleans up our poos in the winter!
